Romantic Love, Everyday Disappointment: Meditation & Relationships
with Judith Simmer-Brown Fri September 10th: 7:00 PM - 9:00 PMSat September 11th: 9:00 AM - 4:30 PMSun September 12th: 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM Price: $165.00 There is nothing as delicious as falling in love, and nothing as devastating as falling out of love. Whenever intense emotion arises within primary relationships, we have a unique opportunity to open more fully to our experience and to develop more authentic connections with others. This requires that we step out of the “pseudo-religion” of romantic love so prevalent in our western culture, and engage in the genuine practice of caring for another person. We will explore common expectations of love relationships and how, through meditation practice, we might work more closely with the dynamics of masculine and feminine, independence and intimacy. This weekend includes meditation and is intended for individuals or couples interested in a mindful Buddhist perspective on healthy relationships.
Registration fee includes Saturday lunch.
THIS CLASS IS NOW FULL. TO BE PLACED ON A WAITING LIST PLEASE CONTACT LORAINE BEYER AT lrbeyer@bellsouth.net
Acharya Judith Simmer-Brown, Ph.D., is professor of Buddhist studies at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, and Dean of the Teachers’ Academy for Shambhala International. She travels widely teaching meditation practice, Buddhist philosophy, and socially engaged Buddhism. Her special interest lies in the “feminine principle” embodied in the Tibetan “dakini sky-dancer” lore. Her book, Dakini’s Warm Breath (Shambhala 2001), explores the feminine principle as it reveals itself in meditation practice and everyday life for women and men. She has been married for almost 30 years and has two college-aged children.
